Humans and dogs are not created equal when it comes to herbs and essential oils

Shop NowI have a friend that is a nutritionist. I remember asking her opinion on feeding my dog Lily a raw diet years ago. Her response to me was “ I don’t know about Canine nutrition” . I replied, “You’re a nutritionist! “ Her reply, “Yes, but not for canines”.
Another friend is an herbalist and aromatherapist. She readily admits that when it comes to herbs and essential oils, she would be afraid to treat a dog, as she has no idea what herbs or essential oils are safe for dogs.
Sadly, in this age and time, so many companies have jumped on the “Pet Wellness Train” and are producing dangerous products, claiming to be a natural remedy, because the products they are selling use essential oils or herbs. I cringe when I read labels on these so called all-natural products only to see Tea Tree oil being used or Wintergreen or Eucalyptus. When I see supplements that contain garlic, oleander or rosemary, all of which can be fatal to a dog.
While I can respect the use for alternative therapies and products for our pet’s, when it comes to animals and humans, we are not created equal. Though we think of them as human their body systems are very different and they cannot metabolize certain herbs and essential oils the same as we can. . My nutritionist friend was not trained in Canine Nutrition and my Aromatherapist friend was not trained in Animal Aromatherapy. Though both are trained professionals in their perspective fields, they were not trained with the emphasis on Dogs. There is a huge difference.
